What is psychopathy?
DEFINITION
Psychopathy is a personality disorder of a person who is antisocial, has diminished empathy and remorse, and disinhibited. Some of the very important people that have changed the way we understand psychopathy are Hervey M. Cleckley, George E. Partridge, and Robert D. Hare.
What next?
Currently there are no advanced way of detecting psychopathy because of the challenges of identification. Psychopathy, as you will learn, heavily depends on the psychopath's environment and how they are treated. A person does not have a certain set of genes that will identify them as a psychopath. More importantly, not all psychopaths do not become serial killers. In fact a large person of psychopaths are successful in the business world. For now, until we understand more about psychopathy, there are no tests or procedures that can be performed on a person to know if they will kill 100 women. As stated by the FBI, it "...is not possible to identify all of the factors that influence an individual to become a serial murderer."
What if? |
The current the Federal Bureau of Investigation has a Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG) which can respond to any possible serial killing in the United State to help local authorities if asked. They provide their expertise to help catch these serial killers. This team consists of a S.W.A.T. team, Behavioral Analysis Units, and Crisis Management teams. All of these can help catch the serial killer before he or she strikes again.
